BATTERY & CHARGING.

Que: - WHAT IS CONSTANT CURRENT CHARGING?

Ans: - CHARGING METHOD IN WHICH CURRENT DOES NOT APPRECIABLY CHANGE AGAINST BATTERY DEMAND SUITABLE APPLICATIONS. WHERE A BATTERY NEEDS TO BE FULLY CHARGED IN THE START TIME.

Que: - WHAT IS CONSTANT POTENTIAL CHARGING?

Ans: - CHARGING METHOD WHERE CONSTANT VOLTAGES APPLIED AND

CHARGE CURRENT IS ALLOWED TO VARY AGAINST BATTERY DEMAND.

USUALLY, THE INITIAL CURRENT IS LIMITED THIS BEING CLASSIFIED AS

MODIFIED CONSTANT POTENTIAL CHARGING.

Que: -HOW DO YOU DECIDE THE BOOST CHARGE CURRENT RATE FOR

GIVEN AMPERE-HOUR RATING BATTERY?

Ans: - C/5 i.e., 100Ah/5=20 Ampere.

Que: - HOW DO YOU CHECK THE BATTERY CONDITION?

Ans: - BY CONDUCTING DISCHARGE TEST (BATTERY LOAD TEST).

Que: -WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF ALKALINE BATTERIES OVER LEAD ACID BATTERIES?

Ans: -

• CONSIDERABLY MORE LIFE,

• NEED NOT DEAL WITH H2SO4 DANGEROUS,

• LESS MAINTENANCE.

Que: -WHY BATTERY ROOM IS NORMALLY CONSIDERED FOR HAZARDOUS AREA CLASSIFICATION?

Ans: - BECAUSE OF

• HYDROGEN EVOLUTION,

• GAS GROUP II C (HYDROGEN OR CARBON DI SULPHIDE).

Que: - WHAT IS FLOAT VOLTAGE FOR ALKALINE AND LEAD ACID CELLS?

Ans: -

• NICKEL CADNIUM: - 1.4 V

• ALKALINE: - 1.42v,

• LEAD ACID: - 2.4v.

Que: -HOW TO GET 24V USING 1.5V CELLS?

Ans: - 16 NUMBERS OF CELLS ARE CONNECTED TO BE SERIES WE CAN GET 24V.

Que: -IF ONE CELL IS DEAD. HOW TO REPLACE THE BATTERY?

Ans: - ONE BYPASS JUMPER IS TO BE PROVIDED ACROSS THE BATTERY AND REPLACE IT, AFTER REPLACING BATTERY BYPASS JUMPER MUST BE

REMOVED.

Que: -WHAT IS THE SPECIFIC GRAVITY VALUE OF BATTERY CELL & HOW TO MEASURE IT?

Ans: - THE GRAVITY VALUE OF BATTERY CELL IS

• 1280 FOR FULLY CHARGED LEAD ACID CELL,

• 1260 FOR HALF-CHARGED LEAD ACID CELL,

• 1180 FOR DEAD CELL (LEAD ACID CELL),

• 1200 FOR FULLY CHARGED NICKEL CADMIUM CELL & DISCHARGED

CONDITION SAME VALUE,

THE SPECIFIC GRAVITY CAN BE MEASURED BY “HYDROMETER’’.

Que: -COMPARE LEAD ACID CELL WITH ALKALINE FOR MODERN USE

TODAY.

Ans: - ALKALINE HAS ADVANTAGES OF LONGLIFE, SAVING IN WEIGHT OVER THE LEAD ACID, IS VIRTUALLY UNAFFECTED BY MOMENTARY OVER LOADS AND IS VERY STRONG MECHANICALLY IT IS HOWEVER, MORE EXPENSIVE THAN LEAD ACID.

Que: -EXPERIENCE ON BATTERY MAINTENANCE, WHAT IS SPECIFIC

GRAVITY?

Ans: - SPECIFIC GRAVITY OF THE ELECTROLYTE INDICATES THE CONDITION OF THE BATTERY. IT IS MEASURED BY THE HYDROMETER. FOR FULLY CHARGED LEAD ACID BATTERY IT SHOULD BE 1260, FOR NI-CD IT SHOULD BE 1200. BATTERY LEADS ARE TO CLEAN AND APPIED WITH PETROLEUM JELLY.

Que: - WHAT ARE THE BATTERY MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES?

Ans: - USE FOLLOWING STEPS FOR THE MAINTENANCE OF THE BATTERY:

• OBTAIN WORK PERMIT

• CLEAN THE BATTERY TERMINALS AND APPLY PETROLEUM JELLY,

• CHECK THE VOLTAGE PER CELL,

• SPECIFIC GRAVITY OF ELECTROLYTE,

• CHECK THE ELECTROLYTE LEVEL,

• CHECK THE ELECTROLYTIC TEMPERATURE,

• CHECK THE TOTAL VOLTAGE, & CLOSE THE PERMIT.
